SUMMARY:ARTIST TALK: Lucy Raven in conversation with Alan Ruiz
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we welcome Lucy Raven and Alan Ruiz\, two artists at
the forefront of new ideas that examine time\, place\, space\, and who ex
plore our human experience in the landscape and community. With a special
introduction by Humberto Moro\, Deputy Director of Program at Dia Art Foun
dation\, this discussion celebrates the concurrent opening of two shows th
at explore evolution over time: THIS LAND: Considering the American Landsc
ape at The Church (opening June 21\, 2026) and De sol a sol at Dia Bridgeh
ampton (opening June 26\, 2026)\,\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nRaven and Ruiz will discus
s their respective work before exploring the intersections between the two
. Following the discussion there will be a Q&amp\;A led by This Land exhib
ition curators Donna De Salvo and Seph Rodney that will then open to quest
ions from the audience.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nRaven\, whose work Deposition\, Dam
Breach\, 21\, 2024 will be on view at The Church this summer\, examines fo
rces of pressure\, industry\, and material transformations that mark weste
rn American landscape. In the Depositions\, Raven modelled a series of dam
breaks\, setting up container-scale breaches of earthen dams with tempora
ry reservoirs whose fluctuating cycles of pressure and release are registe
red against their silk substrates demonstrating how the endurance of natur
al materials in the fluctuating cycles of pressure and release literally t
urn “land into landscape.”\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nRuiz\, who is creating a new
 site-responsive work at Dia Bridgehampton\, examines man-made landscapes a
nd environments. By considering the physical sites and social relations be
hind industrial\, institutional\, and bureaucratic spaces\, Ruiz juxtapose
s the physical and historical\, the man-made and the natural.  Exploring
Dia’s architecture and its previous lives as a fire station and First Ba
ptist Church of Bridgehampton\, as well considering the symbolic and layer
ed meaning in the natural light of the East End\, Ruiz leverages the viewe
rs’ attention and perception\, creating a unique experience within the s
pace.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nBe sure to stop by both institutions this summer to ta
ke see this incredible work in person. Both exhibitions are free and open
to the public and the exhibition hours are below:\n\n\n\nThe Church\n\n48
