DESCRIPTION:This conversation between sculptor Mark Mennin and author/curat
 or Hilary Lewis will explore 30 years of Mennin's career devoted to creati
 ng large-scale\, site-responsive stone sculptures that blend with nature\,
  as captured in a survey released this year by Skira\, Mark Mennin: Observ
 ance. Three Decades of Carving in the Landscape\, an art book edited by Hi
 lary Lewis and Dani Shapiro. The book\, which will be available for purcha
 se\, explores his transition from figurative carving to monumental install
 ations\, featuring essays by art critics and showcasing his work's dialogu
 e between human effort\, time\, and the natural world.\n\nAbout Mark Menni
 n\n\nMark Mennin assisted Toshiko Takaezu at Princeton University. He bega
 n to carve stone in Italy in 1984\, and worked there for three years\, exe
 cuting commissions and preparing what would be the first of many solo show
 s in New York at Marisa del Re\, Victoria Munroe\, among others. The scale
  of his sculpture evolved to giant landscape and architectural works\, oft
 en involving hundreds of tons of granite\, for which he does all the carvi
 ng himself.\n\nMennin's Interior Portraits are currently on view in the Lo
 ngHouse Sculpture Court.\n\nAbout Hilary Lewis\n\nHilary Lewis is an archi
 tectural historian\, curator and author. She is co-authos of Mark Mennin: 
 Observance. With Mennin she curated Mark Mennin: Processi at The Glass Hou
 se as its Chief Curator &amp\; Creative Director. The exhibition presented
  Mennin's sculptures in dialogue with the landscape and buildings of that 
 prominent historic site. She received her training in art\, architecture a
 nd urbanism at MIT and Harvard\, where she also taught. Lewis has been rec
 ognized by Wallpaper* as one of the top creatives in the US.
