Local and regional knitters came together in East Hampton on Jan. 10 for Knitters Against Abuse, a one-day artisan sale benefiting The Retreat’s life-saving survivor programs.

Organized by Retreat board member Anne Kothari, the event brought together craft, care, and community. Shoppers bought one-of-a-kind knitwear and accessories along with purple knitted safety pins—powerful symbols of safety, solidarity and the safe spaces The Retreat helps provide for survivors of domestic abuse and their families.

Participating knitters included Anne Kothari, Sue de Lara, Judy D’Mello, Sally Wang, Beth Josephs, Inez Crandall, Gretchen Comly, Adina Friedman, Karen Garcia, Erika Garcia, Vivienne Keegan, Rabbi Cantor Debra Stein, Eileen Gladstone, Zuleyma Nieto, Diane Grogan, Carmen Quintuna, and members of the Most Holy Trinity Knitters, among others.

The event was made possible in part through the generosity of Susan Nieland, a longtime supporter of The Retreat and member of the local knitting community.
