The star-studded, one-night performance raised awareness and support for efforts to save the historic West Park Presbyterian Church from demolition.

An all-star cast, including Scarlett Johansson, J. Smith-Cameron, Alec Baldwin and Charles Busch performed in a special staged reading of All About Eve on Nov. 17, hosted by the The Sanctuary at St. Paul & St. Andrew on Manhattan’s Upper West Side.

The sold-out reading of Joseph L. Mankiewicz’s Academy Award-winning 1950 script was part of CWP’s fall benefit series and supported the organization’s efforts to prevent plans to demolish the landmark West Park Presbyterian Church to make way for luxury development.

The excitement inside the church as the audience filled every seat was palpable. Actor Matt Dillon, who has shown great support for the Center at West Park — along with actors such as Mark RuffaloRichard Kind, and Amy Schumer — was seated in the first row of the audience.

The 135-year-old landmark is one of New York City’s last affordable arts and community hubs, hosting over 75 artist residencies and serving more than 600 artists in the past six years alone. Theater producer and director Joe Papp began his theater company at the Center at West Park.
