Donna Karan Steps Behind the Scenes

Fashion icon and philanthropist Donna Karan joins Tony Award-winning producer Bruce Robert Harris as executive producer of the Sag Harbor world premiere. Karan first saw a workshop staging last summer and said she “wanted to get involved” because Halston helped define modern American fashion with his clean lines, liquid fabrics, and signature sexy attitude.

Celebrating a Fashion Legend

Written by Raffaele Pacitti and directed by Michael Wilson, Mister Halston traces the rise, global fame, and eventual fall of Halston, giving audiences an intimate look at one of American fashion’s most influential figures. Set against the glamour and volatility of New York in the ’70s and ’80s, the play brings Halston’s meteoric journey to life.

A Continuing Bay Street Connection

Karan’s collaboration continues her relationship with Bay Street Theater, which honored her and Christie Brinkley at the 2025 gala. The gala featured a tribute performance inspired by the 1973 “Battle of Versailles” fashion show — a pivotal moment in fashion history attended by both Halston and Karan.

“We are honored to collaborate with Bruce Robert Harris on this exciting new work and grateful that Donna Karan has agreed to support the production as executive producer,” said Scott Schwartz, artistic director of Bay Street Theater.
