$200,000 Winning Powerball Ticket Sold at Montauk 7-Eleven

A lucky lottery player turned a $50,000 prize into a six-figure payday in Monday’s drawing. The ticket was purchased at a Montauk store with a record-breaking past.

Someone who purchased a Powerball ticket at a Montauk 7-Eleven is $200,000 richer — or will be once the prize is claimed.

The winning ticket was sold at the convenience store at 653 Montauk Highway for the Monday, Oct. 19, drawing, New York Lottery officials announced Tuesday.

The ticket matched four of the five white balls plus the Powerball, earning a third-tier prize normally worth $50,000. But the player added the optional Power Play feature, and a 4X multiplier boosted the winnings to $200,000.

The winning numbers were 8, 31, 32, 42 and 48, with a Powerball of 23. The winner has not been identified.

A Montauk 7-Eleven With a History of Big Numbers

The Montauk store has a distinction of its own. In 2014, 7-Eleven Inc. named it the highest-grossing location in the United States, an unusual honor for a convenience store at the eastern tip of Long Island.

Its sales have historically reflected Montauk’s seasonal swings, with summer crowds driving business at a location that serves everyone from year-round residents to vacationers. That same year, the company reported that eight of its 10 highest-grossing U.S. stores were in Suffolk County.

Now the store has added a six-figure lottery win to its history, this time in the quieter fall season.

Powerball drawings take place Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at 10:59 p.m. Players choose five numbers from 1 to 69 and a Powerball number from 1 to 26. The optional Power Play feature can increase eligible non-jackpot winnings.

The Montauk ticket holder has one year from the drawing date to claim the prize.
