Local favorite and PBS movie critic Bill McCuddy was the MC.

Caroline Hirsch: A Legendary Career Producing Comedy

Hirsch is one of the most influential figures in American comedy. As the founder of the iconic Carolines on Broadway, she helped launch and elevate the careers of generations of comedians while establishing the club as one of the nation’s premier comedy venues. She later founded the acclaimed New York Comedy Festival, now one of the country’s leading comedy events, and produced A&E’s Caroline’s Comedy Hour, which earned a CableACE Award for Best Stand-Up Comedy Series.

Guests gathered at the Southampton Playhouse to celebrate the inaugural event, where Hirsch and the comedians were joined by Andrew Fox, executive vice president of the New York Comedy Festival; Eric Kohn, artistic director of Southampton Playhouse; Maria Ruiz Batsacos, executive director of Southampton Playhouse.

With its first stand-up showcase drawing an enthusiastic audience (on a Tuesday night), the Southampton Playhouse continues to expand its year-round programming, adding live comedy to its growing lineup of independent films, special screenings, conversations, performances and community events. If the inaugural evening is any indication, the Playhouse is poised to become a new destination for live comedy on the East End.
