HBO Developing ‘Further Lane,’ New Hamptons Drama Set in East Hampton’s World of Billionaires

From ‘The Studio’ co-creator Alex Gregory, the new series explores wealth, ambition and the relationships between a privileged Hamptons family and its household staff.

Further Lane, the storied East Hampton address known for its oceanfront estates, billionaire homeowners and towering hedges, is getting the Hollywood treatment.

HBO is developing Further Lane, a new drama series from Alex Gregory, co-creator of the Emmy-winning Apple TV+ comedy The Studio and an executive producer of Veep. The project will explore the complicated relationships between a wealthy Hamptons family and the people who work for them over the course of a summer.

According to an exclusive report by Deadline, the project landed at HBO following competitive interest, with Gregory attached to write and executive produce.

Behind the Gates of Billionaire Lane

For those familiar with the Hamptons, the title alone says plenty.

Further Lane, sometimes called “Billionaire Lane,” is among the most exclusive addresses in the country, a stretch of East Hampton where oceanfront estates, extraordinary fortunes and some of the most coveted real estate on the East Coast are part of the landscape.

Jerry Seinfeld owns a sprawling 12-acre estate he purchased from Billy Joel for a reported $32 million in 2000. Art world powerhouse Larry Gagosian and Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels are also among the street’s notable property owners.

In 2025, billionaire media mogul Len Blavatnik, whose holdings include Warner Music Group, purchased an 8.5-acre oceanfront estate at 408 Further Lane for $115 million. The off-market transaction set a Hamptons record for the most expensive single residential parcel ever sold.

The street also has a storied past. Lasata, the historic estate at 121 Further Lane where Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis spent childhood summers, was purchased by fashion designer and filmmaker Tom Ford for $52 million in 2023.

But HBO’s proposed drama appears less interested in the price of admission than in what happens behind the gates.

Inspired by original reporting by Emily Witt for The New Yorker, Further Lane will examine how wealth and ambition shape relationships within a privileged family and between its members and their household staff.

It’s a premise that speaks to a familiar Hamptons divide: the people who spend their summers in extraordinary luxury and the year-round working community that helps make that lifestyle possible.

A Hollywood Insider With Hamptons Connections

Gregory brings considerable television credentials to the project.

Alex Gregory.

He is one of the co-creators of The Studio, the acclaimed Apple TV+ comedy starring Seth Rogen as Matt Remick, a Hollywood studio executive struggling to balance artistic ambition, commercial pressures and the egos of the entertainment industry.

The series, which Gregory co-created with Rogen, Evan Goldberg, Peter Huyck and Frida Perez, earned major awards recognition, including Emmy and Golden Globe wins.

Gregory’s previous credits also include HBO’s political comedy Veep and the limited series White House Plumbers, which he co-created.

The Hamptons setting is also personal. According to Deadline, Gregory connected with the material through his own memories of growing up around the East End’s working communities and observing their intersection with the region’s extraordinary wealth and privilege.

That perspective could give Further Lane a dimension beyond the familiar portrayals of Hamptons parties, sprawling estates and summer excess.

The Team Behind ‘Knives Out’ Is on Board

The series is being produced by T-Street, the company founded by filmmaker Rian Johnson and producer Ram Bergman, whose credits include the Knives Out franchise.

Johnson, Bergman and Nena Rodrigue will executive produce, with Allegra Greenland serving as co-executive producer.

New Yorker Studios is also attached, with Helen Estabrook and Lajoie St. George executive producing. Witt will serve as a consulting producer.

The project is still in development, and HBO has not announced a cast, production schedule or premiere date.

Whether Further Lane ultimately makes it to the screen remains to be seen. But its premise has the makings of a distinctly Hamptons story: immense fortunes, competing ambitions and two very different worlds occupying the same summer address.
