Whoopi Goldberg, Vanessa Williams and Star-Studded Cast Head to Shelter Island for Netflix’s ‘Women Like Us’
The Netflix comedy, executive produced by Michelle Obama, is set to film at The Pridwin, Crescent Beach and other Shelter Island locations this fall.
Shelter Island is getting a serious dose of star power this fall.
Netflix’s upcoming comedy Women Like Us, starring Whoopi Goldberg, Jenifer Lewis, Vanessa Williams and Vivica A. Fox, is expected to film at some of Shelter Island’s most recognizable locations, including The Pridwin Hotel and Cottages, Crescent Beach and Sunset Beach Hotel.
The film is executive produced by former first lady Michelle Obama and Barack Obama through their Higher Ground Productions, adding another marquee connection to a project already packed with them.And while October usually brings the Hamptons its annual influx of movie stars, filmmakers and industry insiders for the Hamptons International Film Festival, Women Like Us will deliver an earlier, extra dose of Hollywood to the East End.
A Girls’ Trip Heads to the Hamptons
Women Like Us centers on four longtime friends who travel to the Hamptons for a birthday getaway, only to find themselves confronting the realities of getting older, their relationships and the friendship that has held them together.
The project comes from writer and director Tina Gordon, whose credits include Little, Peeples and What Men Want. Goldberg and Kym Whitley are also among the film’s executive producers.
Netflix Comes to Shelter Island
Plans for the production were presented during an Aug. 17 Shelter Island Town Board work session, offering a glimpse at what the shoot will bring to the island.
Filming is expected to take place over several days this fall, with The Pridwin serving as one of the production’s primary locations. Production plans discussed with town officials have also included drone filming, including scenes capturing the women arriving on and departing from the island.
The shoot is expected to involve a sizable production operation, with cast, crew, vehicles and equipment coming onto the island — no small undertaking in a place reached by ferry.
A Hamptons Story With Some Serious Star Power
Goldberg brings another New York connection to the project as longtime co-host and moderator of The View. The EGOT winner’s career spans decades of film, television, theater and comedy, from The Color Purple and Ghost to Sister Act.
Lewis has a similarly extensive résumé, with roles ranging from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Black-ish to films including What’s Love Got to Do With It and The Preacher’s Wife.
Williams, who made history as the first Black woman crowned Miss America, has built a career across music, Broadway, film and television, including Ugly Betty and Desperate Housewives.
Fox’s long list of credits includes Independence Day, Set It Off, Kill Bill: Vol. 1 and Curb Your Enthusiasm.
Put the four together on a Hamptons birthday trip and Women Like Us already sounds like a movie built for personalities as much as plot.
Shelter Island Gets Its Close-Up
For East Enders, some of the fun will be seeing familiar Shelter Island spots make their way onto Netflix.
But the scenery may not be the only thing locals recognize.

Waldron Casting is seeking locals for paid background roles in Women Like Us as the Netflix production prepares to film on the island this fall.
That means Goldberg, Lewis, Williams and Fox may not be the only familiar faces on screen. For some Shelter Islanders, watching Women Like Us on Netflix could come with a very different question: Wait, is that my neighbor?
