Hamptons Artist Michael Paraskevas Raises Funds for Cohen Children’s Hospital at Riverhead Costco

Original paintings, live drawings, and a giant Ferocious Beast inflatable will help raise money for Cohen Children’s Hospital.

Southampton-based artist Michael Paraskevas is bringing art and fundraising together this month with a community event at Costco Wholesale in Riverhead to benefit Cohen Children’s Medical Center.

Throughout May, Paraskevas will be on-site signing books, sketching live illustrations, and showcasing two original paintings that will be raffled off. The artwork will remain on display inside Costco for the duration of the fundraiser.

Raffle tickets are $5 for one entry or $20 for five entries. Winning tickets will be drawn on May 31.

Visitors will also be able to see a large inflatable character from the animated series Maggie and the Ferocious Beast, adding a playful element to the fundraiser tied to one of Paraskevas’ best-known creations.

Paraskevas will appear in person on May 16–17, May 23–24, and May 30–31 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

A longtime illustrator whose work has appeared in publications including Sports Illustrated, Time, Rolling Stone, and New York Magazine, Paraskevas has also co-created 24 children’s books with his late mother, Betty Paraskevas.

Their work helped inspire multiple television adaptations, including “Maggie and the Ferocious Beast,” “Marvin the Tap Dancing Horse,” and “Kids From Room 402.”

Paraskevas continues to work across illustration and animation from his Southampton studio, where he lives with his wife, Maria, while developing new projects and exhibiting his large-scale beach paintings internationally. He is a familiar sight at the Hampton Classic, where he has designed the art for the poster five times.
