Meet Rescued Owls, Hawks and Other Birds of Prey at “Raptors in the Garden” in Mattituck

Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center brings rehabilitated raptors to Landcraft Garden Foundation for a family-friendly wildlife experience on August 1

Nature lovers will have the chance to get an up-close look at some of the East End’s most fascinating feathered residents during “Raptors in the Garden,” a special educational event hosted by the Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center at the Landcraft Garden Foundation in Mattituck on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 10:30 a.m.

Set among one of the North Fork’s most unique botanical destinations, the family-friendly program will feature rehabilitated birds of prey — including owls, hawks, falcons and vultures — while offering visitors a rare opportunity to learn their stories and better understand the important role these animals play in the local ecosystem.

Wildlife Rescue Center educators will introduce each bird, share how it came to the center, explain why it was unable to return to the wild, and highlight the remarkable adaptations that make raptors such skilled hunters. Guests will also learn about conservation challenges facing native wildlife and simple ways they can help protect local species.

The event is recommended for all ages and will be held outdoors, weather permitting. Admission is free for Landcraft Garden Foundation members and children; non-members pay regular garden admission.

Based in Hampton Bays, the Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center is Eastern Long Island’s only wildlife hospital, rescuing, rehabilitating and releasing thousands of injured and orphaned wild animals each year. The center also responds to more than 10,000 wildlife-related calls annually and provides educational programs designed to encourage conservation and coexistence with native wildlife.
