Jon Ossoff Heads to the Hamptons for Senate Fundraisers as 2028 Talk Builds
The Georgia Democratic senator hits the East End fundraising circuit Aug. 23 as he raises millions for reelection — and Democratic donors size up the party’s potential 2028 presidential field.
The democratic party’s rising star Jon Ossoff is heading to the Hamptons later this month, officially to raise money for a Senate reelection fight in Georgia that’s shaping up to be one of the most expensive of the cycle. Unofficially, everyone involved seems to understand it as something else too: a chance for the finance world to get a long look at a guy who keeps insisting he isn’t running for president.

The trip lands on August 23, with at least three stops on the books. Alex Soros is hosting one event at his place, with Delaware senator Lisa Blunt Rochester and Hillary Clinton also attached. A second gathering comes courtesy of a small committee of Democratic fixtures, including former New Jersey governor Jon Corzine, Common Good founder Patricia Duff, and Andrea and Tom Bernstein. A third stop, out in Wainscott, is being hosted by Galaxy Digital’s Michael Novogratz, who’s apparently been doing a bit of informal scouting of his own this summer.
Novogratz said he’s been quietly meeting with a batch of centrist prospects for 2028, putting the number of contenders he’s sizing up at somewhere around a dozen.
Ossoff isn’t the only one making this East End circuit. Illinois governor JB Pritzker, Pennsylvania’s Josh Shapiro, and Maryland’s Wes Moore have all made their own Hamptons swings this summer, which makes the whole stretch of coastline start to look less like a vacation spot and more like an informal Democratic primary green room, three years ahead of schedule.

What makes Ossoff’s version notable is the number attached to it. His campaign has pulled in $77 million since the start of 2025, the most of any candidate on the ballot this cycle and a wide gap ahead of the $7.4 million raised by his Republican opponent, Mike Collins. A big chunk, about $39 million, has come from small donors giving under $200 a pop. But the bigger checks have been rolling in too, through a victory fund that also feeds his leadership PAC, the state party, and the national Senate committee, with names like Pritzker, former Treasury secretary Robert Rubin, and LinkedIn’s Reid Hoffman among the donors.
Corzine framed the effort in fairly practical terms, saying his focus is making sure Ossoff has the resources to make his case to voters in a state that’s still only lightly purple, given how narrow his last victory was.

The cash gap is already forcing Republicans to spend down money they’d rather be saving. The main GOP Senate super PAC has booked $25.7 million in Georgia airtime, well ahead of the $16.5 million reserved by its Democratic counterpart, a sign that even with Ossoff’s fundraising lead, this race is going to get expensive for everyone before November.
