Source:A creative crowd gathered for an afternoon of comedy, storytelling and community — all in support of The Retreat.
An Afternoon at The HUB
Spark Hamptons hosted its Spring Salon at The HUB on April 18, 2026, bringing together comedy, live music and conversation to benefit The Retreat, a Long Island nonprofit supporting survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking.
The setting — The HUB, an event space known for its eclectic mix of shopping and local collaborations — added to the afternoon’s easy, social flow, with guests moving between performances and browsing.
With sushi, wine and cheese served throughout, attendees shopped The Retreat’s All Against Abuse Boutique, featuring designer clothing, handbags and hats, along with a painting donated for auction by artist Anahi DeCanio.
Performance Highlights
The Salon featured a mix of comedy, storytelling and live readings.
Joy Behar presented a play reading of Get Me Teresa Caputo, joined by Paul Hecht, Marsin Moglieski and Angela LaGreca, editor of Spark Hamptons, who also hosted and performed.
Rolonda Watts brought stand-up and memoir to the stage, while Randy Hemming read a personal story set in New York City. Brian Mott shared selections from his Poetry for Chaos series, closing with an ode to his husband, Jimmy Mack, a Southampton Town trustee and president.
Lenny Babbish accompanied Angela LaGreca on piano.
A Conversation on Impact
Following the performances, a conversation with Cate Carbonaro, executive director of The Retreat, alongside Joy Behar and Angela LaGreca, focused on the organization’s services — including housing, financial and legal assistance, clothing and mental health support.
The discussion also highlighted ongoing needs, particularly expanded housing and funding to sustain those services.
Behar, a longtime advocate, has supported The Retreat through fundraising efforts, including a recent auction on The View benefiting the nonprofit.
Community Support
Members of The Retreat team in attendance included Cate Carbonaro (executive director); Elise Trucks (director of development), Gigi Albinson (director of The Retreat Boutique in the Bridgehampton Commons), and Helen Atkinson-Barnes (director of education). Staff on hand connected with guests and shared information on how to support the organization.
Looking Ahead
The Retreat’s summer gala will take place June 6, 2026, at the Southampton Arts Center.
