Kites for Kids Returns to East Hampton’s Main Beach Aug. 22
The Eleanor Whitmore Early Childhood Center’s annual beach fundraiser invites kids — and kids at heart — to decorate and fly kites while supporting affordable child care for local families.
Look to the sky: One of East Hampton’s most colorful family traditions is heading back to Main Beach.
After being postponed because of inclement weather earlier this season, the Eleanor Whitmore Early Childhood Center’s annual Kites for Kids fundraiser has been rescheduled for Saturday, Aug. 22, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Main Beach in East Hampton.

The outdoor event brings kids, families and community members together for an afternoon of decorating and flying kites along the ocean — all while raising money to help keep child care affordable for local working families.
Kites are $15 each and can be reserved in advance. At the beach, young artists can customize their creations with stickers, ribbons, glitter and markers before sending them skyward. Discounts are available for multiple-kite purchases, and one-of-a-kind kites decorated by Whitmore Kids are available for $50.
New this year, Kites for Kids bucket hats for children and adults can also be purchased in advance and picked up at the event.
Anyone who reserved a kite for the previously scheduled May 23 event will automatically be registered for the Aug. 22 date. Those unable to attend the rescheduled event may request a refund.
Free event parking will be available at Main Beach.
Proceeds benefit the Eleanor Whitmore Early Childhood Center, a nonprofit East Hampton child care center that has served local families since 1969. Open year-round, the center provides all-day care and early childhood education, with fundraising helping it keep tuition affordable for working families.
