Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka to Be Honored at Star-Studded NYC Gala for LGBTQ+ Families

Elton John and David Furnish will present the Luminary Award at Family Equality’s annual Night at the Pier fundraiser in New York City.

Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka will be honored at Family Equality’s annual Night at the Pier fundraising gala on Monday, May 11, in New York City.

The couple, fathers to twins Harper and Gideon, will receive the Luminary Award in recognition of their visibility, advocacy, and longstanding support of LGBTQ+ families.

The award will be presented by Elton John and David Furnish, founder and chair, respectively, of the Elton John AIDS Foundation and longtime advocates for LGBTQ+ equality and family affirmation.

Harris and Burtka, who have been together for more than 20 years and married in 2014, purchased a more than 13-acre estate in East Hampton in 2017 and spend much of their time on the East End.

This year’s gala theme, “We Show Up,” reflects Family Equality’s mission to support and advocate for LGBTQ+ families nationwide.

“As a parent raising twins myself, I know firsthand that family life is equal parts joy, chaos, worry, and wonder,” said Darra Gordon, CEO of Family Equality. “Neil and David are raising teens while using their visibility to show what loving, committed LGBTQ+ parenthood looks like. That kind of representation matters.”

Held annually at Pier 60, Night at the Pier brings together celebrities, advocates, allies, and supporters for an evening of Broadway performances, storytelling, and fundraising. Proceeds support Family Equality’s work advancing protections and rights for LGBTQ+ families across the country.

The full performance schedule will be released soon by Family Equality. Check back with SparkHamptons.com for full coverage of the Night at the Pier Gala.
