Hamptons JazzFest presents the Wayne Escoffery Quartet at the Masonic Temple in Sag Harbor — a night of powerful modern jazz, masterful improvisation, and the energy of one of today’s leading saxophone voices.

Led by Grammy Award-winning tenor saxophonist Wayne Escoffery, the quartet presents dynamic performances combining modern jazz improvisation with influences drawn from the broader history of the music. Escoffery is recognized as a major voice in contemporary jazz, known for his powerful sound, original compositions, and deep roots in the hard bop and post-bop traditions.

Born in London and based in New York City, Escoffery studied with jazz legend Jackie McLean at The Hartt School on a full scholarship and graduated summa cum laude in Jazz Performance. He went on to earn a master’s degree at the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz Performance at New England Conservatory, where he toured with Herbie Hancock. He has performed with the Mingus Big Band and collaborated with leading jazz artists and ensembles throughout his career.

This performance will be recorded for future broadcast on WLIW-FM, an NPR affiliate.
