Rioja Holistic Home Launches Sustainable Luxury Collection Inspired by Spain’s Rioja Region

Founder Ana Fabiano brings art quality ceramics, botanical body oils and heirloom Merino wool textiles from Spain’s celebrated Rioja region to homeowners seeking timeless design, authenticity and wellness.

In a world that often feels cluttered and rushed, Ana Fabiano is dedicated to the pause — a pause that embraces authenticity, sustainability and the desire to surround ourselves with objects of lasting beauty and meaning.

As founder and CEO of Rioja Holistic Home, a new collection of handcrafted home goods rooted in Spain’s Rioja region, Fabiano brings decades of expertise to the launch.

She is the author of the award-winning book The Wine Region of Rioja (2012; updated edition, 2017) and is widely recognized as one of the foremost U.S. experts on Rioja, combining her deep knowledge of the region with an accomplished career in international business and wine education.

“Our mission is raising consciousness around what we buy, where it comes from, and how the things in our homes — or that we gift — impact our loved ones and the earth,” says Fabiano.

The Rioja Holistic Home collection is inspired by the same landscape that has shaped one of the world’s most celebrated wine regions.

“These selections come from the same soil that has nurtured Rioja’s vineyards,” Fabiano says. “We often see exceptional products emerge from world-class wine regions, and Rioja is one of the leading wine-producing regions in the world with very stringent standards regarding additives.”

The collection includes 100% botanical lavender and rosemary body oils, heirloom-quality 100% Merino wool blankets crafted from all-natural fibers, and art quality ceramics created by master artisans.

“As the birthplace of Merino sheep, Spain has an extraordinary heritage of producing one of the world’s finest natural fibers,” says Fabiano. “With growing awareness about the health and environmental concerns surrounding synthetic textiles, creating these incredibly beautiful handcraftedMerino blankets from 100% natural fibers is incredibly meaningful to me.”

The collection reflects both a deeply personal journey and nearly two decades immersed in Rioja’s culture, craftsmanship and wine traditions.

From Rioja Wine Expert to Lifestyle Brand

For Fabiano, who lived in upstate New York and now lives on Long Island, the journey began with a college conversation.

“I told my professor I wanted to study Spanish,” she recalls. “She said if I truly wanted to learn the language, I needed to go to Spain — not Mexico. That’s where I would learn Castilian Spanish.”

The experience proved life-changing.

Her travels not only shaped the trajectory of her career, but also established what would become a lifelong relationship with Rioja and its people.

Fabiano later became the first American hired by the Embassy of Spain’s Commercial Office to co-found Wines of Spain, a government initiative created to educate consumers and promote Spanish wine in the United States.

As trade director, she helped double Rioja wine shipments to the United States, surpassing 1.1 million imported cases while expanding educational programming across more than 40 markets and representing more than 170 wineries throughout the U.S. She also helped grow Rioja’s trade presence in Canada.

“Coming from a career built around service and pioneering initiatives, founding Rioja Holistic Home is a natural continuation of that journey,” says Fabiano, who continues to lead curated Rioja wine seminars, lectures and private tastings around the world.

Her newest venture expands beyond wine, bringing together wellness, heritage and sustainability through products created entirely within the Rioja region.

A Life-Changing Pivot

The inspiration for Rioja Holistic Home also grew from profound personal loss.

“My family suffered a trilogy of tragedies,” Fabiano says. “The first was the Towers going down — the worst terrorist attack on the United States — then 20 months later, a pediatric cancer diagnosis, and then 20 months after that, the total loss of our home in a house fire.”

“Dancing with the possible death of your child and the loss of your home is extraordinarily humbling,” she says. “It changes your value system.”

Today, those experiences continue to shape both her life and her business.

“Our first asset is health. Our second asset is time. And our third asset is having the resources to make the most of the first two.”

She has taken decades of experience centered on Rioja — especially following the publication of her groundbreaking book, the first published in the United States devoted exclusively to the Rioja wine region and widely described as the only wine book endorsed by the Riojan government. — and combined it with a renewed focus on wellness and sustainable living.

“The blessing through all of this was that it raised my consciousness about what we’re putting on our bodies and what we’re bringing into our homes,” she says. “Our skin is our largest organ, so we began with two 100% botanical body oils — lavender and rosemary. The response has been incredible. They’re lightweight, absorb quickly, aren’t greasy, and each offers significant wellness benefits.”

Fabiano is equally passionate about the collection’s Merino wool blankets.

“Merino wool is one of the world’s finest natural fibers,” she says. “It’s naturally flame-resistant, temperature-regulating, antimicrobial and antibacterial. It’s incredibly soft, but also remarkably strong, making it a fiber that can truly last for generations.”

“They’re heirloom pieces,” she adds. “They’re the kind of blankets that can be passed from grandparents to grandchildren or become treasured family keepsakes.”

Celebrating Spanish Craftsmanship

Beyond wellness, Fabiano sees Rioja Holistic Home as a celebration of Spanish artistry and craftsmanship.

She points to the ceramics collection as a reflection of modern Spain’s creative renaissance following the country’s transition to democracy in the late 20th century.

“When Spain emerged from decades of dictatorship, there was an incredible flowering of creativity,” she says. “You saw it in film, cuisine, architecture and the ceramic arts.”

Among the artisans Fabiano works with is a fourth-generation master ceramist whose contemporary pieces reflect both tradition and innovation.

“His work embodies modern Spain,” she says. “You’re not seeing traditional floral patterns. Instead, you’re seeing the mastery of the wheel, sculptural forms and a distinctly contemporary artistic expression.”

The artisan also creates commissioned work for several of northern Spain’s Michelin-starred restaurants and leading luxury design houses.

For Fabiano, authenticity remains at the heart of every piece in the collection.

“We’re a plastic-free brand, and we’re very proud of that,” she says. “We imported 332 kilos of handcrafted ceramics completely plastic-free, and we’ve shipped them throughout the country without a single piece arriving broken.”

It’s another reflection, she says, of Rioja’s culture of excellence — “one that values healthy living, craftsmanship, respect for the earth and a genuine appreciation for beauty.”

A Natural Fit for the Hamptons

Fabiano believes those same values resonate with Hamptons homeowners, where thoughtfully designed interiors often reflect a deep appreciation for craftsmanship, artistry and timeless design.

She sees a natural connection between Rioja Holistic Home and the East End’s community of collectors, designers and homeowners who seek distinctive pieces with provenance and purpose.

“The Hamptons has always appreciated beautiful textiles, ceramics and one-of-a-kind pieces,” she says. “People here understand craftsmanship and quality.”

Unlike mass-produced home décor, each Rioja Holistic Home piece is created in limited quantities by artisans whose techniques have often been passed down through generations.

“These aren’t pieces you’ll find everywhere,” Fabiano says. “They’re not products you find with large mass home decor bands.”

Instead, she hopes customers discover something more personal.

“I love the idea that someone walks into your home and asks, ‘Where did you find that?’ Then you get to tell the story behind it — about the artisan, the region and the craftsmanship. That curiosity creates a deeper appreciation for the object itself.”

For Fabiano, that’s ultimately what luxury means: owning fewer things, but choosing them with greater intention.

Objects With Beauty and Purpose

As Rioja Holistic Home makes its debut, Fabiano hopes the collection speaks to people looking beyond trends and embracing a more thoughtful way of living.

“What’s most exciting about this launch is raising consciousness about what we buy, what we gift and what we’re bringing into our homes for our loved ones and ourselves,” says Fabiano, who has spent nearly two decades introducing the Rioja region to American audiences.

“These are objects of beauty and purpose, but they also promote wellness and health.”

Looking back on the personal challenges that ultimately inspired Rioja Holistic Home, she returns to a quote that has guided her through difficult times.

“As Maya Angelou said, ‘There’s a rainbow in the cloud,'” Fabiano says. “For me, this collection is about finding that rainbow — and bringing beauty, wellness and meaning into people’s homes.”
