The Clam Bar Bets on the Late Afternoon Crowd With a New Weekday Happy Hour

The Hamptons seafood institution is adding an early evening menu of drinks and snacks, giving locals another reason to linger after the beach.

Summer on the East End never really starts until you’ve lined up at The Clam Bar. This place isn’t just a lobster roll shack — it’s basically a rite of passage, with that sunny red-and-white stand and fried clam baskets you can’t help but eat in the parking lot. Years have gone by, but everything about The Clam Bar still shouts “vacay.”

Now there’s a new reason to pull over before you get wrapped up in Hamptons evening plans. The Clam Bar’s rolling out a weekday Happy Hour, Monday to Friday, 4 to 6 p.m., and yes, it’s as relaxed as you imagine. It’s not some flashy reinvention, either, just a fix for those weird late-afternoon hours when the sun’s still beating down, the sand’s in your hair, and you’re not ready for dinner but not quite done with the day.

Dependable crowd-pleasers built for dunking or passing across the table. Ten bucks gets you masa chips covered in guac and pico, golden clam strips, and the kind of corn nuggets that disappear fast. Drinks join in on the vacation mode — $15 rum punch with all the fruit, $7 Montauk drafts, $5 Modelos. You get the idea.

The timing’s perfect. After your last swim, when Route 27 traffic starts to drag, The Clam Bar’s Happy Hour gives you somewhere to decompress, snack a little, and dodge the early dinner crowd. Locals and longtime regulars can blend with beach people and summer renters — no reservations, no fuss, just a cold drink and some fried clams at a picnic table with an ocean breeze.

And that’s the key. The Clam Bar hasn’t tried to become anything new. No trendy overhauls or menu drama—just a fresh excuse to stop by one of the Hamptons’ most classic seafood joints, all season long.

Find Happy Hour at The Clam Bar, 2025 Montauk Highway, Amagansett, Monday through Friday, 4 to 6 p.m. Grab a seat while it lasts.
