Southold Police Drone Locates Missing Kayaker in Long Island Sound Near Greenport

A kayaker who became separated from his group Sunday afternoon was found with the help of a Southold Town Police Department drone and safely brought back to shore.A kayaker who became separated from his group in the Long Island Sound near Greenport was located and rescued Sunday afternoon after Southold Town police deployed a drone to assist in the search.

Southold Town police received a report at approximately 2:54 p.m. that a kayaker had become separated from his party and could not be located.

Responding officers deployed the Southold Town Police Department’s drone, which located the missing kayaker in the water. Marine units were then directed to his location and safely brought him back to shore, according to police.

The kayaker was reunited with his group and no injuries were reported.

The Greenport Fire Department also responded and assisted with the search.
