Suffolk First Responders Help Deliver Baby Girl in Roadside Birth

A Suffolk police officer and East Moriches ambulance crew assisted a 22-year-old Riverhead mother during an early-morning delivery in Eastport.

An early morning 911 call became an extraordinary early-morning rescue when Suffolk County first responders helped a 22-year-old Riverhead woman give birth to a baby girl on the side of the road in Eastport.

According to Suffolk County police, officers responded at about 4:13 a.m. Tuesday to a report of a woman in active labor in the passenger seat of a parked Nissan Pathfinder on southbound County Road 51.

Seventh Precinct Officer Amanda Brisson arrived first and assisted the mother as she prepared to deliver her baby. East Moriches Community Ambulance paramedic Steven Diamantopoulos and EMT Ben Cohen soon arrived and safely delivered the baby girl.

The mother and her newborn daughter were transported by East Moriches Community Ambulance, driven by Origen Symes, to Stony Brook University Hospital for evaluation. Both were reported to be in good condition.
