Hamptons JazzFest presents Sean Mason in solo piano performance at Hoie Hall at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in East Hampton, as part of the McIver Piano Series — an intimate afternoon with one of the most compelling and visionary young pianists in contemporary jazz.

Born in Charlotte, North Carolina and trained at both UNC Greensboro and The Juilliard School, Sean Mason is a Grammy Award nominee, Bessie Award winner, and Bistro Award recipient. He has performed and toured with Branford Marsalis and Wynton Marsalis, and has served as the featured pianist on two major film projects: the Netflix film Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and the Emmy-nominated History Channel documentary Tulsa Burning: The 1921 Race Massacre. He also contributed to Broadway productions including Hadestown and Phantom of the Opera.

In 2022, NPR’s Jazz Night in America named Mason a member of their inaugural Youngbloods class — recognizing up-and-coming jazz musicians acknowledged for revolutionizing the genre. His 2023 debut album The Southern Suite was praised by NPR, DownBeat, and WNYC as the emergence of an important new voice. His 2025 album A Breath of Fresh Air has been widely described as ‘a sweeping statement of renewal’ and ‘a bold new chapter in Mason’s artistic evolution.’

This solo piano performance presents Mason in an intimate setting focused entirely on the piano — featuring improvisation, original compositions, and the deep connection to jazz tradition and contemporary expression that defines his artistry.
