27th Annual Shelter Island Fall 5K Run/Walk Returns October 17 to Support Women Affected by Cancer on the East End

The 27th Annual Shelter Island Fall 5K Run/Walk returns Saturday, October 17, 2026, at 11 a.m., bringing runners, walkers, families, and supporters together for a morning of fitness, community, and fundraising in support of women affected by breast and women’s cancers across the East End.

For 27 years, the Shelter Island Fall 5K has united the community around its mission of raising awareness and critical funds for local organizations providing care and assistance to women facing cancer. Proceeds from the event benefit The North Fork Breast Health Coalition, The Coalition for Women’s Cancers and Lucia’s Angels, with race proceeds designated for patient care for women on the East End of Long Island.

“Our Shelter Island Fall 5K Run/Walk has been providing support for our neighbors on the East End for over 26 years,” said M.E. Adipietro, Race Director. “This event continues because of the beauty of the course, commitment and dedication of our participants and sponsors over the many years.

“Come out on Saturday, October 17th and enjoy a morning of exercise, free barbecue, medals for both adults and children.

“Experience our love and continued support for our neighbors on the East End affected by breast cancer, our promise to stand by them and fight against cancer will never waiver.”

The 3.1-mile course takes participants along Shelter Island’s picturesque tree-lined streets and rolling hills before finishing with panoramic waterfront views along Crescent Beach. The course is USATF certified, and runners and walkers of all abilities are encouraged to participate.

Following the race, participants can gather for a complimentary post-race barbecue, featuring homemade chili and cookies while supplies last. Registration also includes a finisher medal, and the first 400 registered runners will receive a complimentary race T-shirt.

Both the 5K Run and 5K Walk begin at 11 a.m. Registration is currently $45 for adults and $25 for children ages 12 and under. Participants are encouraged to register early, as prices will increase after October 12, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. EDT.

Race-day activities will take place at 35 Shore Road, Shelter Island, NY. Same-day registration will close at 10:30 a.m., and participants are encouraged to allow additional travel time for fall traffic and ferry schedules. Complimentary shuttle service will operate from both the North and South Ferry terminals to the race from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Wheelchairs, strollers and leashed dogs are welcome, making the annual event an opportunity for the entire community to come together in support of an important cause.
