Local Veterans Share Stories and Films at Southampton Arts Center Ahead of Veterans Day

Honor Veterans Day early by listening to local heroes share their experiences through film and conversation at the Southampton Arts Center.

We know our veterans have stories — powerful stories of courage, resilience, and sacrifice. But are they being heard?

On Saturday, Nov. 8, three days before Veterans Day, three generations of local veterans will share their stories — through conversation and short films — at the Southampton Arts Center (SAC).

The event is presented in partnership with USA Warrior Stories, a nonprofit organization that has recorded, archived and shared more than 300 stories of military veterans since 2017. Co-founded by East End residents and filmmakers Matt Hindra and Nick Kraus, USA Warrior Stories not only connects veterans with one another but also helps the public better understand their service and sacrifices.

The featured veterans are Angelique Williams, who served as a yeoman in the Navy (1997–2014); Ed German, who served in Vietnam (U.S. Marine Corps, 1967–70); and Martin Sylvester, who served in World War II (Army, 1943–45). After the films, Hindra and Kraus will moderate a Q&A.

In honor of Veterans Day, USA Warrior Stories is excited to screen three stories from our archive at the Southampton Arts Center, followed by a Q&A with U.S. Navy veteran Angelique Williams, USMC Vietnam War veteran Ed German, and WWII Army veteran Martin Sylvester’s son, Paul Sylvester,” said Hindra. “We invite the community to come and learn more about USA Warrior Stories and the veteran stories we share.”
