A Hedge Fund Billionaire Just Listed a Hamptons Estate for $152.5 Million. It Might Be the Most Expensive Home Sale in Local History.

Zach Schreiber’s oceanfront Sagaponack compound spans just 3.8 acres, but its record-breaking asking price would eclipse every residential sale the Hamptons has ever seen.

Tucked away in a stretch of the Hamptons where oceanfront estates and mind-boggling fortunes are woven into everyday life, a fresh listing just hit the market—and it’s making even this exclusive enclave do a double-take.

The new arrival: an estate at 39 Fairfield Pond Lane in Sagaponack, represented by Terry Cohen of Compass, just unveiled for a cool $152.5 million. If anyone actually pays that, it’ll blow past any residential sales record the Hamptons has ever seen. The owner, Zach Schreiber, made his name (and fortune) as the founder of PointState Capital. He picked up this parcel for $24 million back in 2013 before launching into a complete transformation that took years.

The number stops you cold — not just because it’s enormous, but because of what you get.

Let’s put it in perspective. Some Hamptons compounds could eat this one for breakfast —  in terms of acreage and square footage, at least. Schreiber’s newly built home sits on just 3.8 acres. There’s about 9,500 square feet of interior living space. That’s hardly supersized compared to some of the region’s true trophy homes. Yet the price asks for over $16,000 per square foot—a number that vaults the house into an elite club, even by the standards of ultra-luxury real estate.

The address carries most of the weight. Fairfield Pond Lane has long ranked among the most exclusive lanes in America. It’s hidden behind a low-key entrance and ends right at the Atlantic Ocean, lined with one jaw-dropping mansion after another. Privacy is almost a given; oceanfront property here, on the other hand, is disappearingly rare.

To top it off, the estate even shares a border with the largest private residence in the country: Ira Rennert’s massive 65-acre compound, anchored by a 110,000-square-foot home and estimated to be worth hundreds of millions.

Schreiber’s property covers just a sliver of that, but he’s aiming to set a new price record anyway.

Just last year, a sprawling Further Lane estate sold for $115 million—a record for the area. That one had nearly nine acres and a 10,500-square-foot house. By contrast, 39 Fairfield Pond Lane is a fraction of the size but wants more than $37 million over that sale.

The transformation here is complete; Schreiber tore down the old two-story home that stood on the lot and started from scratch, building a new house that takes full advantage of its place on the water.

The main space? An 823-square-foot great room, soaring with 15-foot ceilings and washed in panoramic views of the Atlantic and the lush grounds. The place feels much bigger than the numbers suggest.

There are seven bedrooms, eight bathrooms, and two powder rooms. You get plenty of ways to relax: a media lounge, a wellness wing with a Pilates studio, spa, and sauna. Outside, it’s all the must-haves for a house in this league—more than 360 feet of ocean frontage, a heated pool, a tennis court (professional players have played there), and about 2,000 square feet of covered porch space. Altogether, there’s around 11,500 square feet for living and entertaining, much of it centered on the outdoors and the water.

What’s wild is how far the place has come. Decades ago, this site was little more than a windy scrap of beach set behind potato fields, with a modest wooden cottage thrown up in 1945, heated by a wood stove and not much else.

Now, that old cottage is just a memory, replaced by one of the priciest new homes in America.

Will some buyer pony up? Hard to say. For now, in a Hamptons market obsessed with privacy and the idea of trophy properties, 39 Fairfield Pond Lane is betting that a slice of the most sought-after oceanfront in the country is, frankly, beyond price.
