Southampton’s summer calendar is packed with events, but Saturday’s Sunflower Benefit for ACE Programs for the Homeless added a deeper meaning to the season.

Under a bright late-August sky at Whitefield on Hill Street, philanthropists, community leaders, and local influencers came together to support a cause that brings New Yorkers together: providing dignity and opportunities for those facing homelessness.

The day began with a fun twist—a lively pickleball tournament that combined sports and entertainment. Spectators filled the courts before the focus shifted to an outdoor evening of cocktails, a candlelit dinner, and live music. Guests raised their glasses, celebrating not just summer but also ACE’s mission: job training, paid work experiences, and support services that help people transition from shelter to stability. The pickleball tournament was intense. International participants excelled, with Korbinian Ludwig from Munich and Sandra Sanches taking first place. Texans Alex Moskwa and Jessica Gibson came in second, while third place went to Constantin Ricks from Munich and Monique Grignard from Toronto.

The event also previewed ACE’s main gathering: the Dream Gala, scheduled for October 9, 2025, at the Mandarin Oriental in New York. That night will honor Henry Hay and Andrew Torrey, and will feature a performance by the incredible Jennifer Holliday—something guests whispered about while enjoying grilled sea bass and late-summer corn. Saturday’s benefit highlighted the efforts of longtime ACE supporter Henry Buhl, whose advocacy is crucial to the organization’s impact. He was among prominent philanthropists and well-known figures: Dale and Renee Schlather, Stephanie Rader, Matthew Gibson, Ellie Manko, Ginger and Larry Leeds, Nancy Ross, and Debbie Farrington.

While summer in the Hamptons often focuses on escape, the Sunflower Benefit reminded guests of the season’s true luxury: the chance to come together and foster change.
