Umeko—loosely translated to “fish over rice”—just opened in the West Village as a sister restaurant to the viral Ume in Williamsburg. The $48 prix fixe menu follows the philosophy of doing less, well. The featured fish (currently tuna) is seasonal, fresh, and thoughtfully prepared.

The winter NY Boat Show is the first and longest-running boat show in the U.S. It features hundreds of boats on display, marine gear, and educational programming. Whether you are looking to buy a boat or just enjoy being around them, bring your deck shoes and take a look-see.

The Winter Show is the longest-running U.S. fair devoted to art, antiques, and design. It is the show to be in, and to see. And yes, the vetting is vigorous. It also unofficially launches the cultural social season in NYC. Opening night honoree is Caroline Kennedy. Ticket prices support East Side House Settlement, which impacts more than 15,000 New Yorkers annually. Student tickets are $25 with ID.

This new exhibition surveys Jasper Johns’ crosshatch paintings and drawings from 1973 to 1983, including rarely seen works from museum loans. It commemorates the 50th anniversary of this body of work’s debut at Castelli Gallery in 1976 and bookends Gagosian’s flagship gallery history at 980 Madison Avenue.

Last chance to see this exhibition of Faith Ringgold’s powerful work downtown at Jack Shainman Gallery. The Harlem-born artist and cultural icon who lived during the Harlem Renaissance (and passed away in 2024 at the age of 93) often addressed race, gender, and culture. Her quilt narratives are especially impactful.
