Southampton Arts Center Launches Student Arts Partnership With Southampton School District

A new arts initiative with SAC and the Southampton School District highlights students’ creativity and art.

Southampton Arts Center has launched a new arts education partnership with the Southampton School District, debuting with a student exhibition titled First Light: Celebrating Student Artists of Southampton. The exhibition opens Feb. 7 and runs through May 3, showcasing work by students in grades K-12 and honoring the district’s art educators.

The initiative is designed to expand access to the arts, increase student visibility and inspire creative engagement across the community.

Celebrating Student Creativity

The exhibition features a wide range of media, including painting, photography, ceramics, collage, 3D design, multimedia and poetry. Works by Southampton art teachers will also be included, highlighting the role of practicing artists in arts education.

Southampton Arts Center Chair Simone Levinson, whose background includes public education reform, helped spearhead the initiative as part of SAC’s mission to build community through the arts.

“There is no greater experience than a child walking into a museum and spotting their own work on the wall; this can change their life forever,” Levinson said. “We are excited to create opportunities for the next generation of artists, collectors and patrons of the arts.”

Expanded Youth Programming

During the exhibition’s three-month run, SAC will expand its Kids Programs with additional workshops and school-break programming for grades K-12. All 1,200 Southampton School District students will also receive SAC student membership cards, encouraging continued participation in arts programming.

Visitors can take part in interactive experiences throughout the exhibition, including a children’s scavenger hunt and participatory art elements.

Community Support and Receptions

Southampton Mayor William Manger praised the collaboration, saying, “This important new partnership between the Southampton Arts Center and the Southampton School District reflects our shared commitment to arts education and to supporting young artists in our community.”
