OLA Latino Film Festival of the Hamptons Returns With Screenings Across the East End
The 23rd annual festival brings films exploring migration, belonging and resilience to Southampton, Sag Harbor and Greenport Sept. 17-20.
The Latino Film Festival of the Hamptons returns this week, bringing films from across the Latino and Latin American experience to three theaters spanning the South and North forks.
Presented by OLA of Eastern Long Island, the 23rd annual festival runs Sept. 17-20, with screenings Thursday, Saturday and Sunday at Southampton Playhouse, Sag Harbor Cinema and North Fork Arts Center in Greenport.
Held during National Hispanic Heritage Month, this year’s festival is organized around the theme “Courage and Truth,” with films exploring migration, belonging, memory, resilience and human connection.
“Every year, this festival reminds us that storytelling has the power to transform communities,” OLA Executive Director Minerva Perez said. “These films invite us to see ourselves in one another, to recognize the dignity of every journey, and to celebrate the beauty and complexity of Latino experiences.”
For more than two decades, the festival has also served as an extension of OLA’s broader work on the East End. Founded in 2002, the nonprofit supports Latino immigrants and families through advocacy, immigration services, education, leadership programs, health initiatives and arts and cultural programming.
This year’s festival travels across the East End, beginning in Southampton, moving to Sag Harbor and closing in Greenport.
Opening night: ‘Moscas’ at Southampton Playhouse
Thursday, Sept. 17, 6:30 p.m. reception; 7 p.m. screening

Opening night features the New York premiere of Moscas (Flies), the award-winning 2025 film from Mexican director Fernando Eimbcke.
The film follows Olga, an isolated woman whose decision to rent a room in her Mexico City apartment leads to an unexpected relationship with the 9-year-old son of her new tenant.
Moscas won the Ecumenical Jury Prize at the 76th Berlin International Film Festival as well as the Berliner Morgenpost Reader Award.
A conversation with co-writer Vanesa Garnica will follow the screening.
Tickets are $12. The film runs 1 hour and 39 minutes and is recommended for ages 13 and older.
‘Truncated Soul’ and ‘Island of Dreams’ at Sag Harbor Cinema
Saturday, Sept. 19, 8 p.m.

The festival continues Saturday night with two films examining memory, migration and the choices that can define a life.
The program begins with the New York premiere of Alma Truncada (Truncated Soul), a 13-minute short directed by Pedro Perez Nuñez. The film explores regret, memory and redemption through the final thoughts of a man caught between life and death.
It will be followed by the Long Island premiere of Isla de Sueños (Island of Dreams), Alvaro Jimenez’s 52-minute documentary examining the difficult decision between remaining in a deteriorating Cuba or leaving everything behind.
A conversation with Jimenez will follow the screening.
Tickets are $15. Both films are recommended for ages 13 and older.
‘Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado’ closes the festival in Greenport
Sunday, Sept. 20, 2 p.m.
North Fork Arts Center at the Sapan Greenport Theatre, 211 Front St., Greenport
The festival crosses to the North Fork on Sunday for a family-friendly finale, Dora y La Búsqueda del Sol Dorado (Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado).
Directed by Alberto Belli, the 2025 film follows Dora, Diego and their new friends on an adventure through the Amazon as they race to discover the legendary treasure of Sol Dorado.
Adult tickets are $10 and children are free. The film runs 1 hour and 36 minutes and is open to all ages.
For Perez, the films — and the conversations around them — are part of a tradition that has grown alongside OLA and the Latino community it serves on the East End.
“For twenty-three years, the Latino Film Festival of the Hamptons has created space for empathy, conversation, and cultural pride,” Perez said, “and we are honored to continue that tradition with audiences across the East End.”

El Festival de Cine Latino de los Hamptons de OLA regresa con funciones por todo el East End
La 23.ª edición del festival presenta películas sobre migración, pertenencia y resiliencia en Southampton, Sag Harbor y Greenport del 17 al 20 de septiembre.
El Festival de Cine Latino de los Hamptons regresa esta semana con películas que reflejan distintas experiencias latinas y latinoamericanas, presentadas en tres cines del South Fork y North Fork.
Organizado por OLA of Eastern Long Island, el festival celebra su 23.ª edición del 17 al 20 de septiembre, con funciones el jueves, sábado y domingo en Southampton Playhouse, Sag Harbor Cinema y North Fork Arts Center en Greenport.
Celebrado durante el Mes Nacional de la Herencia Hispana, el festival de este año se presenta bajo el tema “Courage and Truth” (“Coraje y Verdad”), con películas que exploran la migración, la pertenencia, la memoria, la resiliencia y las conexiones humanas.
“Cada año, este festival nos recuerda que contar historias tiene el poder de transformar comunidades”, dijo Minerva Perez, directora ejecutiva de OLA. “Estas películas nos invitan a vernos reflejados los unos en los otros, a reconocer la dignidad de cada recorrido y a celebrar la belleza y la complejidad de las experiencias latinas”.
Durante más de dos décadas, el festival también ha sido una extensión del trabajo que OLA realiza en el East End. Fundada en 2002, la organización sin fines de lucro apoya a inmigrantes y familias latinas a través de servicios de inmigración, educación, iniciativas de salud, programas de liderazgo, defensa comunitaria y programación artística y cultural.
Este año, el festival recorre el East End, comenzando en Southampton, continuando en Sag Harbor y cerrando en Greenport.
Noche de apertura: ‘Moscas’ en Southampton Playhouse

El festival continúa el sábado por la noche con dos películas que abordan la memoria, la migración y las decisiones que pueden definir una vida.
La programación comienza con el estreno en Nueva York de Alma Truncada, un cortometraje de 13 minutos dirigido por Pedro Perez Nuñez. La película explora el arrepentimiento, la memoria y la redención a través de los últimos pensamientos de un hombre atrapado entre la vida y la muerte.

El festival cruza al North Fork el domingo para un cierre familiar con Dora y La Búsqueda del Sol Dorado.
