Spark Hamptons—the new lifestyle magazine and guide to the best Hamptons and New York City events, hot spots, homes and “people making sparks”—celebrated its launch with a creative salon and party at The HUB in Bridgehampton on Sept. 20. The sold-out, standing-room-only event is still generating buzz (the good kind).

The evening featured readings, music, comedy and art, highlighted by a new play from Emmy Award–winning The View co-host and playwright Joy Behar. The play, ‘The Guest List’, about race and privilege and set in Sagaponack, starred legendary supermodel, actress and entrepreneur Christie Brinkley; former daytime talk show host and actress Rolonda Watts; and actors Gabriel Portunondo, Randall Hemming, Alyson Reim and Bob Kaplan. (Kaplan is directing Christopher Durang’s Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, featuring Hemming and Reim, at the Southampton Cultural Center, running Oct. 10–26.)

HUB co-owner Michael Catalano opened the program by introducing Spark Hamptons co-publisher and editor Angela LaGreca, who then introduced co-publisher and marketing director Ty Wenzel.

Wenzel spoke about the magazine’s mission to celebrate “the creativity, character and stories that define life across the Hamptons and North Fork.”

Spark Hamptons is a new lifestyle magazine dedicated to capturing the spirit of the East End through real voices and authentic perspectives,” Wenzel said. “More than just a magazine, Spark Hamptons is a platform where local voices shine, inspiring readers with the energy, beauty and ever-evolving lifestyle of our coastal community.”

LaGreca worked the crowd and read a story from her column, “Angela in America,” based on a true—and harrowing—experience in Westhampton Beach in the late 1990s. Behar and Hemming followed with their “Hamptons Diary” entries, featured in Spark Hamptons. Behar read about her observations about the late Breadzilla in Wainscott and Hemming read his story about a high-end retail experience he had in East Hampton a part of his ‘re-tales’ series.

Popular singer-songwriter Inda Eaton performed two songs (follow her IndAmerica project). Artist and abstract painter Anahi DeCanio displayed a range of works and discussed creativity and her artistic journey. Ceramic artist Eve Behar, owner of the new ceramics school in Water Mill called Mudita, which she says stands for “happiness for the success of others,” brought several of her pieces. Lenny Babbish served as musical director.

After the salon, guests enjoyed the launch party, which featured music by DJ Angelique Morrow, penne pasta from La Parmigiana in Southampton, sushi from Citarella, charcuterie platters and a variety of wines.

“The HUB was thrilled to host the salon with Joy Behar, Christie Brinkley and other Hamptons luminaries,” Catalano said. “Angela LaGreca’s not-to-be-missed @SparkHamptons Instagram touting everything Hamptons is always on everyone’s radar, and we’re excited for the launch of SparkHamptons.com.
