The Giving SPARK: Why i-tri? The Power of a Community That Believes in Girls
As East End nonprofit i-tri prepares for its annual Giving Day on Oct. 29, Tia Greene-Granger reflects on six years of working with the organization and the community that keeps showing up for its girls.
There’s something I’ve come to appreciate about the way a community shows up when it truly believes in something.
It’s not always in the grand gestures. Sometimes, it’s in a conversation, a familiar face offering to lend their voice, or someone taking a few minutes out of their day to share why a cause matters to them.
Over the past several weeks, I’ve been reminded of this again and again.

For six years, I’ve had the honor of working alongside i-tri, an East End nonprofit empowering adolescent girls through triathlon training, mentorship, and personal development. Its mission extends beyond the finish line, helping girls discover their confidence, strength, and potential.
This year, as we approach Giving Day, we’ve been asking one question: Why i-tri?
And oh, the stories that have come forward.
From Victoria “Vic” Brumfield, CEO of USA Triathlon, to familiar East End voices like Dawn Watson, alongside mothers, daughters, alumni, and coaches, each has shared a personal perspective on why this organization matters.

Meaningful Connections and Community
I’ve especially enjoyed watching Theresa Roden and her team bring this year’s campaign to life. Behind every fundraising goal are countless conversations, relationships, and people working together toward something meaningful.
What stands out is how they’ve brought fundraising into everyday conversations. Through social media and community channels, they’re inviting people to understand the lasting impact of i-tri, rather than simply asking them to contribute.
And isn’t that what community is about? Creating connections that encourage us to care, participate, and support something beyond ourselves.

On Thursday, Oct. 29, i-tri will host its annual Giving Day with a goal of raising $285,000.
I invite you to join me in tuning into i-tri’s social media channels throughout the day. Follow along as Theresa and her team share stories, celebrate supporters, and bring us together as they work toward this milestone.
And if you feel inspired, click the link below to make a donation. Every contribution helps create opportunities for girls across our community.
After six years, I continue to find new reasons to answer that same question: Why i-tri?
Perhaps the most meaningful answer is found in the people who keep showing up, long after Giving Day has passed.
