Health Scares and “Blackout” Episodes
The 68-year-old actor described extended health complications, including orthostatic hypotension, a nerve-related condition that caused him to black out multiple times and left him “in bed for eight days,” as well as ongoing physical therapy.
“That was unspeakably difficult to deal with,” said Alec Baldwin, who explained that the Rust incident reshaped nearly every aspect of his life.
“It impacted me in every way—financially, career-wise, my wife, my kids, my health,” he said, adding that he spent long stretches at home and largely stepped away from work to focus on his family.
‘I Don’t Want to Work Anymore’
Baldwin told The Hollywood Reporter:
“Because of the situation in New Mexico, which was very painful, I wound up staying home a lot. I was home with my kids for three-and-a-half years — I hardly worked at all — and that’s just changing now. I’m going to go off and do a bunch of things. But I was home and I got used to it, and I don’t want to leave my house anymore,. i don’t., I don’t want to work anymore. I don’t. I really don’t. I want to retire and stay home with my kids.” — Alec Baldwin, The Hollywood Reporter podcast, April 13, 2026

Finishing Rust and Legal Fallout
Completing Rust also proved emotionally and physically difficult. Baldwin said he returned to Montana to finish filming as part of a settlement agreement tied to a wrongful death lawsuit filed by Halyna Hutchins’ widower, Matthew Hutchins.
The finished film was ultimately handed over with Baldwin noting, “We gave him the movie and said, ‘You sell it and do whatever you want with it.’”
In 2024, involuntary manslaughter charges against Baldwin were dismissed with prejudice after a judge ruled prosecutors had withheld evidence relevant to the case.

What Comes Next—and Where He’ll Live
